San Juan Islands (7.11.11)

Next we chose a new adventure ... bike camping in the San Juan Islands! We loaded up the bikes (yes those are eggs & yes they are hard-boiled) and boarded the ferry. (Found a great place to tie up the bikes.)

We rode along winding roads...

past open fields...

and along the water.

And found an awesome walk-in waterfront campsite on Lopez Island.

On Orcas Island we gave our legs a break and went kayaking.

And found oysters!

We met up with family friends who showed us the secret gardens of Orcas...

And took us fishing with spin-casters.

And Adam caught a fish!

It was huge!

And delicious.

North Cascades (7.8.11)

Next we headed back west to the North Cascades in Washington. It was amazingly green.

We hiked up Fourth of July Pass to find purple flowers facing snow-covered peaks.

Of course all that snow turns into roaring streams ...

And gorgeous lakes!

Makes you thirsty!

And Adam discovered that his fly fishing pole breaks down for easy transport. (Fresh fish dinners to date: stay tuned...)

Glacier National Park (6.30.11)

In Glacier we were joined by ... the Crows!

 Together we explored snowy terrain,

 and lush jungles,

 ate sandwiches by glacial rivers,

and hiked across the Canadian border,

 took in the views,

forded mighty rivers,

 ate apples,

and were mesmerized by the wildlife.

There was of course some intra-family competition

 and healthy team-building activities.

And we ended each fun-filled day passed out by the campfire.
